Xavier L. Tate Jr Obituary – The Chicago Police Department has identified a suspect in the shooting and killing of Officer Luis Huesca. An arrest warrant has been issued for Xavier L. Tate Jr., a 22-year-old resident of Aurora. Tate is facing a first-degree murder charge for the shooting that occurred on April 21 in the Gage Park neighborhood.
Despite the ongoing manhunt, Tate remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. Officer Huesca was shot multiple times near his family’s home while driving home in uniform. The incident involved the theft of his vehicle, which was later found nearby. The suspect, Tate, was captured on surveillance video entering convenience stores and walking on a sidewalk. He had a previous arrest for criminal trespass to a residence. A combined reward of $100,000 has been announced for information leading to Tate’s arrest and conviction.
Officer Huesca had served the Chicago Police Department for six years and would have turned 31 on Tuesday. Authorities urge anyone with information on Tate’s whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers or submit an anonymous tip online.
