CT-based Amazon manager used employee reward program to defraud company. He owes $167K

A Hartford man who worked as an area manager for Amazon has been sentenced to federal prison for defrauding the company through its employee reward program to obtain electronics including Apple products and Nintendo Switches.

Terrell Kimble, 45, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams in Hartford to 18 months in prison and three years of supervised release after he pleaded guilty to wire fraud on June 30, 2025, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

Court records show that during the time Kimble worked for Amazon as a regional fleet specialist and an area manager based in Connecticut Amazon had an employee reward program called Peak that was “administered through a procurement portal called Coupa.”

According to court records, Coupa “allowed certain employees, including area managers, to reward other employees on their work team for superior performance by ordering an item from Amazon for the employee at no cost.”

Between July 2021 and December 2022, Kimble allegedly placed more than 200 fraudulent Coupa orders stating that they were “to reward employee performance, but had the products, mainly high-end electronic goods, delivered to his mother’s residence for his own use,” court records show. The electronics reportedly included an Apple iPad Pro, Apple AirPods Pro and Apple Watch devices, as well as Nintendo Switches, according to court records.

Kimble was arrested on Aug. 15, 2024. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said his criminal history includes 14 prior convictions.

Kimble, who is currently free on a $250,000 bond, is required to report to prison on March 20. Williams also ordered Kimble to pay $167,115.69 in restitution to Amazon, according to court records.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Secret Service and the Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force, with the assistance of the Windsor, West Hartford, and Hartford Police Departments.
