It is a list you do not want to be in.

Orkin‘s annual Top 50 Rattiest Cities List has a new king, and one Connecticut city has unfortunately cracked the top 5.

Hartford jumped 8 positions in the list, going from 13th rattiest city overall to 5th, according to Orkin. Connecticut’s capital city now beats out other cities like Washington, D.C., Detroit, and Philadelphia.

Thankfully, Hartford is the only representation from the Nutmeg state, according to Orkin.

And this is despite Hartford using a form of rat birth control in its parks.

As for the rattiest city of all, that dishonor goes to Los Angeles, according to Orkin: “Chicago’s decade-long reign at No. 1 is over, with Los Angeles knocking the Windy City off its long-held perch.”

“This year, California is the most represented state, with four cities in the top 50: Los Angeles (No.1), San Francisco (No. 4), Sacramento (No. 19) and San Diego (No. 24). Notably, two of these, Los Angeles and San Francisco, appear in the top five,” Orkin went on to say.

The CT home sales market is changing. Here is what buyers and sellers need to know.

“Orkin determined this year’s Rattiest Cities by tracking new rodent services in owner-occupied residences from August 20, 2024, to August 21, 2025, offering a snapshot of the cities with the highest levels of reported activity,” according to Orkin.
