New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson is leaving amid allegations of theft and misuse of public funds, Mayor Justin Elicker said on Monday.
Elicker scheduled a 6:30 p.m. press conference for Monday evening at the New Haven Police Department to announce the appointment of Assistant Police Chief David Zannelli as the acting chief.
Jacobson was sworn in as police chief on July 6, 2022. Previous to his appointment, Jacobson served as assistant chief of the department.
The city’s Board of Alders voted unanimously approved Jacobson for police chief after a “challenging process” to fill the position.
