A 19-year-old man faces additional charges following claims of a separate domestic violence incident in South Windsor after he was arrested over the weekend for an alleged assault.

Brian P. Misztal, of South Windsor, was arrested on Saturday just before 1 a.m. after officers responded to a residence Pierce Road for reports of an assault, according to the South Windsor Police Department.

Police allege that Misztal struck a man on the top of the head with a blunt object, causing an injury. According to police, the man was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released a short while later.

Officers, along with police K-9 Mason, located Misztal in the basement of the residence and he was taken into custody, police said.

Misztal was charged with interfering with an officer/resisting, third-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment. He was released on a $1,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Jan. 21, according to police.

Later in the weekend, the man reported to police that he believed the item he was hit with was a firearm.

“This information, along with a report of a domestic violence incident that occurred between Misztal and a second victim, prompted an investigation that is still active and ongoing with further criminal charges against Misztal pending,” police said.

Officers responded back to the residence on Pierce Road on Sunday just after 6:15 p.m. for reports of an emotionally distraught person. According to police, the person was identified as Misztal.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Capital Region Emergency Services Team responded to assist and located Misztal without incident,” police said. “He was transported to the hospital for an evaluation.”
