Early Friday morning, two Memphis Police officers were swiftly taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds after being shot while on duty in South Memphis while responding to a call.
According to Memphis Police dispatch, officers were dispatched to a call at the intersection of Horn Lake Road and Charter Avenue around 2:20 a.m. Friday.
At the scene, dispatch reported that two officers were shot in the line of duty and urgently transported to Regional One Hospital.
Early this morning, the MPD received numerous reports of a suspicious black vehicle driving erratically along Hewlett and Horn Lake Road. This initial call escalated to a report of a shooting. Upon investigation, the vehicle was discovered, extensively damaged by gunfire.
Efforts are underway to ascertain the condition of the two officers and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Additionally, authorities are working to confirm whether the individuals responsible for the shooting are currently in custody.
It is advisable to avoid the area of Horn Lake and Charter until further notice.
