Corey Wadsworth Obituary, Death; – Newberry authorities and state agents are currently looking into a fatal shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday night.
The Newberry Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to Wise Street near Benedict Street at approximately 9:20 p.m.
Upon arrival, they discovered a victim, identified as 35-year-old Corey Wadsworth by the Newberry County Coroner’s Office, who had sustained a gunshot wound.
Wadsworth was transported to Newberry County Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Following the shooting, Keeman Aljamek Bates surrendered himself to the authorities.
Bates is now facing multiple charges, including murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature, unlawful carry of a pistol, and possession of a pistol by a prohibited person.
Law enforcement officials have stated that they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public, characterizing the shooting as an isolated event. Bates is currently being held at the Newberry County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
