Authorities are working to identify the individuals responsible for abandoning three dogs in New Haven on Thursday in frigid temperatures during two separate incidents.

Two of the animals were found together in East Rock Park in the area of English Drive and View Street, according to the Robin I. Kroogman New Haven Animal Shelter.

Both dogs are males and one of them was suffering from a noticeable skin condition and severe emaciation, the shelter said.

A third dog was found around midnight outside one of the city’s firehouses at 25 Goffe St. where firefighters reported hearing a vehicle outside followed by a barking dog, according to the animal shelter. Crews then located a dog outside.

The shelter said the animal had a microchip which indicated the mixed breed dog is just over 13 years old.
