His parents, Aubrey Wood and Louise Dowless Wood, welcomed him into the world on November 1, 1952. He spent his childhood in Caraway, Arkansas, right beside his cherished sister, Janis Louise Wood Lairson (1946-2021).
Along with working on the family farm when he was younger, Alan also made a commitment to his community by becoming a member of the Aaronic priesthood as a Deacon of The Community of Christ (which was previously known as the Reorganized Latter-Day Saints) and receiving the Order of the Arrow in the Boy Scouts of America.
Alan, who graduated from Caraway High School in 1970, was a center for the basketball team and was elected prom king. He was also a member of the basketball team during his time there. In addition to being a mechanic and a used-car salesperson, he had a passion for automobiles, Christ, and college athletics.
His daughter Sarah Wood Meredith, whom he had with his high school love Melissa Brickell, as well as his grandsons Max and Dylan, are among those who will carry on his legacy. Alan went on to get a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Arkansas State University in 1988. He then went on to have a lengthy career as a social worker in psychiatric hospitals, which resulted in his receiving a 15-year service pin for his work with convicts at the Florida Department of Corrections.
