Driver hospitalized as precaution after vehicle hits pole, crashes into CT river

One person was taken to a hospital on Sunday when the vehicle they were driving hit a pole and went off the road into a river in West Haven.

Officers responded to a report of the single-vehicle crash on Spring Street in the area between Front Avenue and the New Haven town line around 6 p.m., according to the West Haven Police Department.

Responding officers found that a driver hit a utility pole and then veered off the road and into a small river, police said. The vehicle was partially submerged in the water.

According to police, the driver was standing near the road when officers arrived. The individual did not report any injuries.

The driver was taken to a hospital to be evaluated as a precaution, according to police.

Spring Street was partially closed while the vehicle was removed from the water. Utility crews also responded to assess the damage to the utility pole.
