Barry Baker Obituary – Near the end of the day on Sunday, March 24, 2024, Barry Baker went away quietly in his house. Spencer (Michelle) and Tyler (Laura) are Barry’s boys, and he leaves behind his devoted wife, Meg (Zajac). The four grandkids he had—Charlie, Colby, Olivia, and Virginia—were also his greatest delights. He leaves behind a devoted extended family and his sister Patricia (David Chadwick). Growing up in Milford, CT, Barry was a multi-sport superstar, but football was his true calling.
Before attending Milford Academy and eventually receiving an athletic scholarship to UConn, where he met his wife Meg, he was an All-State running back at Jonathan Law. In 2023, he joined several of his former teammates in celebrating his induction into the Milford High School Hall of Fame. While Barry was the owner of Baker’s Bar and Grille for more than 20 years in Milford, he and Meg reared their family there.
At the bar, Barry frequently hosted gatherings of loved ones, and it was not uncommon to see him with a group of friends, arms intertwined, singing “Piano Man.” Sports at UConn, the New York Yankees, and Bruce Springsteen were all things he loved. A man who welcomed everyone he encountered with open arms, he savored every moment of life. Everyone he met felt like family under his amiable influence, and his friends and acquaintances will always cherish the moments they spent with him.
He never missed a sporting event or a trip with loved ones, regardless of when or where they were. It was a point of pride for him that he was a constant sight on the sidelines, roaring his approval of his children’s athletic endeavors. Friends from his childhood, teammates at Uconn, and many more he met during his life are among those he will leave behind. We ask that you respect his memory by experiencing all that life has to offer; after all, that is what he would have desired. Everything is kept under wraps.
