Sterling Bird Death – The demise of our beloved father, Sterling Bacon Bird, who was 90 years old, took place on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst, Nova Scotia. We want to express our deepest condolences to friends and family. Creighton Bird and Reta (Bacon) Bird, both of whom passed away, were his parents. His birthplace was Nappan, Nova Scotia, and he stayed there until 2017, when he relocated to Amherst on Derby Street.
When he was a young lad, he worked with his father on the family farm. He also worked alongside Almer and Neil Ripley at Ripley’s Maple Farm until he was 70 years old. Before he retired at the age of 55, he worked at the Nappan Experimental Farm until he reached that age. A guy who was extremely close to his family and loved ones, and who devoted his life to serving them. The woods were Sterling’s favorite place, and he and his son Jim went hunting together every year. He couldn’t wait to get the rifles oiled and get ready for the next deer he would be hunting.
One of Sterling’s favorite hobbies was chopping his own wood, which he continued to do well into his 80s. They would spend the summers at their beach home, where they would host gatherings for their family and friends. Sterling and his wife were eager to go to the coast so that they could unwind and take in the sights and sounds of the waves. It was a pleasure for him to go around the Atlantic Provinces with his wife and son, Terry, in order to see the various locations.
Sterling is survived by his two sons, James (Dena) of Fenwick and Terry of Amherst, NB; one sister, Gwen Barrie of Prince Edward Island; six grandchildren, Adam (Amy), Michael (Melanie), Jason (Amy), Matthew (Sylvie), Aimee (Jason) and Katrina (Rod), great grandchildren, Ashley, Erin, Kayley, Mia, Anika, Rena, Samantha, Emily, Mason, Jacob, Colton and Harrison; as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family. His wife, Joan Bailey, his brothers Garnet, Leland, Bob, Murray, and Leon, his sister in infancy, and his daughter-in-law, Kim, all passed away before him.
His parents were also among those who passed away before him. Campbell’s Funeral Home, located at 98 Church Street in Amherst, Nova Scotia, was in charge of the cremation process, which was carried out in accordance with Sterling’s desires. At some point in the future, there will be a ceremony performed at the gravesite at the Amherst Cemetery.
