Robert Meehan Obituary – Brother Firefighter Robert Meehan, a well-respected member of the New York City Fire Department Rescue squad and a retired Lieutenant, passed away on March 23, 1994. The news of his demise left us with sorrowful hearts. On March 23, 1994, Robert Meehan was appointed to the New York City Fire Department Rescue team, which marked the beginning of his career as a fireman. All of those who knew Robert can attest to the fact that his dedication to the fire service and his enthusiasm for helping other people were immediately apparent from the very beginning. Throughout the course of his career, he displayed bravery, professionalism, and selflessness in the face of peril, which earned him the respect and affection of his coworkers as well as the community at large.
When Robert was a Rescue Lieutenant, he was responsible for playing a significant part in ensuring the health and safety of our residents. His leadership, competence, and unflinching dedication to duty served as a source of motivation for everyone who served beside him. Whatever he was doing, whether it was responding to crises, conducting training exercises, or mentoring new recruits, Robert tackled each and every assignment with the utmost professionalism and honesty.
Robert retired from the department on July 21, 2019, after having served it with dedication for a quarter of a century. He left behind a legacy of excellence and devotion that would be remembered for many years to come via his retirement. Even though he may have hung up his helmet and turnout gear, the impact that he had on our department and the lives of those that he served will never be forgotten.
At this very moment, Robert’s family is going through the process of finalizing the arrangements for his final farewell. While we are getting ready to say our final goodbyes to a well loved coworker and friend, let us join together as a department to celebrate his life and pay tribute to his memory. During this trying time, we want to let Robert’s family and friends know that they are in our thoughts and prayers, and that we are prepared to bolster their support in any way that we can.
