A Waterbury man has been accused of trafficking two juveniles in Hartford in connection with what police allege is an “organized sex trafficking” operation — allegations that are expected to lead to additional arrests.

Akeem Harris, 27, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant charging him with two counts each of trafficking in persons and risk of injury to a minor, according to Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department.

Boisvert said the charges arose from an investigation that began in September which was conducted by the police department’s Special Investigations Division and the Regionalized Human Trafficking Task Force. The investigation was initiated following reports of “organized sex trafficking involving juveniles,” Boisvert said.

According to Boisvert, authorities found that two juveniles were trafficked through an unspecified online app. They were each brought to Hartford, Boisvert said.

Harris was charged after investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was apprehended by detectives without issue and was held in lieu of $1 million bond, Boisvert said.

Authorities are still investigating and anticipate making additional arrests.
