Police: 20-year-old driver killed after colliding with transit bus in Newington

A 20-year-old man died following motor vehicle crash involving a CTtransit bus in Newington on Friday night, police said.

Officers responded to a serious motor vehicle crash involving a Honda Civic and a CTtransit bus on East Cedar Street near Lowery Place around 11:18 p.m. on Friday, according to the Newington Police Department.

The driver of Honda, identified as 20-year-old Zackariah Berlepsch of Glastonbury, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead as a result of the sustained injuries, police said.

The bus driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital, according to police. Police said there were no reported injuries from the two passengers of the bus.

The Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Squad is leading the investigation, which is active and ongoing, according to police.
