Mary Sue Schranz Obituary, Death – Following a four-year fight with endometrial cancer, Mary Sue Schranz, 65, of the Town of Sturgeon Bay, was born into eternal life on Friday, March 29, 2024. She was born to Frederick and Joyce (Hendricks) Schranz on September 28, 1958, in Crystal Lake, Illinois. In 1960, the family relocated to Waukesha, WI. Following her graduation from Waukesha North High School in 1976, Mary went on to get a B.A. in finance and administrative management from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1980.
Mary attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, after working for General Electric Credit Corporation and Marine Bank, N.A. She earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the university in 1988. Mary taught finance and economics for twenty-five years at a number of schools and universities, including Madison Area Technical College and the University of Wisconsin–Madison, both located in Madison, Wisconsin; Hunter College (CUNY) in New York, New York; and Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
In 2002, Mary also instructed a brief finance course at Vidzemes University College in Valmiera, Latvia. She reviewed multiple textbooks in addition to publishing her research in the prestigious publications Journal of Political Economy and Financial Management. Mary took long journeys abroad, starting with family camping vacations across the US and Canada and ending with visits to 17 different nations. She really relished visiting family in Switzerland, Sweden, and Norway.
Throughout her life, Mary had a keen interest in family history and genealogy. She filled in as the temporary organist at Tanum Forest Lutheran Church in the Wisconsin town of Clay Banks, Sturgeon Bay for a limited period of time. Mary also held positions for a number of years on the boards of the Milwaukee Area Welsh Club and the Shiloh Church Lot and Cemetery Association in Sturgeon Bay.
Her sister Ann M. Schranz and mother Joyce E. Schranz, both of Sturgeon Bay, are among her surviving relatives. There are several cousins and friends who will also miss her. Her father, Frederick P. Schranz, her maternal grandparents, Henry and Lulu Hendricks, and her paternal grandparents, Frederick and Ida Schranz, all passed away before her.
Rev. Peter Mannoja will preside over a funeral service celebrating Mary’s life on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. On the family lot, in Ottawa Cemetery next to Dousman, WI, there will be a funeral. On Saturday, April 6, 2024, friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. The family encourages memorial donations to the charity of your choice in place of flowers.
