Two people were displaced following a two-alarm fire in Bristol on Thursday at a home where the owner was well-known to those in the city for his holiday wreaths.
Fire crews responded to a home at 5 Stonecrest Drive just after 3 p.m. on the report of a fire and found heavy flames at the front of the home, according to Richard Hart, chief of the Bristol Fire Department.
“There’s a large front porch, and that was fully involved,” Hart said.
The two occupants in the home were able to get out on their own. Crews knocked down the exterior flames and entered the home where they made an interior attack to prevent extension inside, Hart said.
“There was some fire on the second floor in a kneewall,” he said, adding that those flames were quickly knocked down.
The fire was brought under control shortly after 3:30 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
Members of the Southington and New Britain Fire Departments provided station coverage while Bristol crews battled the blaze.
According to Hart, the home sustained extensive smoke damage throughout and some “moderate” fire damage inside. The American Red Cross is assisting the two residents of the home, as the house was considered uninhabitable.
One of the residents was known for making and selling holiday wreaths for 20 years before calling it quits in 2023.
The cause and origin of the fire is being investigated by the Bristol Fire Marshal’s Office.
