Willie Garrett Obituary, Death – On Saturday morning, Willie Ryan Garrett, who was 81 years old and lived in New Castle, passed away while he was surrounded by his family. On August 24, 1942, he was born in Albany, Kentucky. His parents, Ryan Garrett and Mary Vera (Sell), both passed away before his birth.
Following his graduation from Clinton County High School in Albany, Kentucky in 1962, he went on to study at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky. In 1963, he relocated to Indiana and began his career with Modernfold Industries. Subsequently, he began working for Chrysler Corporation, where he remained until his retirement in the year 2000, after having served the company for more than 33 years.
Additionally, he worked as a wrecker driver for Popes Towing and A-1 Wrecker Service for a time period of several years. Willie enjoyed going to auctions, going boating and jet skiing, collecting vintage tractors, and collecting memorabilia related to Coca-Cola’s products. In Albany, Kentucky, he was a member of the Clinton Chapel, which is located in the Big Community. He served in the United States Army for a period of time.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 38 years, Paulette Garrett of New Castle, whom he married June 14, 1986; his daughters whom he shared with his former wife, Gina (Mike) Lowe of New Castle, and Amy Garrett of New Castle; his step children, Lisa Neal (Jack Grizzell) of New Castle, Bradley (Robin) Phelps of Indianapolis, Candi Chambers (Tracy Smalley) of New Castle; grandchildren, Taylor Crandall (Chad Butler), Lauren Lowe, Mackenzie Garrett, Nick Ryan Crandall, Summer (Matt) Whelchel, Tyler Neal (Josh Van Bibber), Joshua (Maggie) Phelps, Austin (Carrie) Savage, Heather Savage, Trent Smalley; great grandchildren, Gracelynn Butler, Weston Whelchel, Owen Phelps, Rory Phelps, Finley Phelps, Waylon Savage, Raelynn Savage; a sister, Sue (Willie) Rose of Burkesville, KY; a sister i
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son named Andrew Garrett, a daughter named Mary Crandall, two brothers named Bobby Lou Garrett and Keith Garrett, two nephews named Kenny Garrett and Terry Garrett, a niece named Tracey Clark, and a sister named Doris Faye Garrett who passed away when she was an infant.
Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle will be the location of the services that will take place on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Mt. Summit Cemetery, where military honors will be performed, will be the location of the burial that will follow. On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, visitation will take place at the funeral home from 5 to 8 o’clock in the evening.
