A wind advisory is coming up for Hartford, New Haven, Middlesex, Tolland and Windham counties, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory is in effect from Friday at 4 a.m. through Saturday, 1 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Residents can expect winds of 15-25 miles per hour with gusts as high as 55.

“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects,” according to the advisory. “Tree limbs could be blown down and some power outages may result.”

The National Weather service is advising residents to drive with extra caution. There also is a coastal flooding advisory issued for Southern New Haven, Southern Middlesex and Southern
New London Counties from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, according to the weather service.

“Minor flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect up to 1 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements
near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.”

There also could be breaking waves of 3 to 5 feet during the time of high tide, which could bring “beach erosion, wave splashover bulkheads exacerbating flooding along shoreline roads and properties, with minor damage possible to shoreline structures.”

Accuweather notes, “The same storm responsible for recent flooding in the Northwest and high winds in the northern Rockies will swing from the Midwest to Northeast states to round out the week. As it moves east, the system will bring a surge of gusty winds and warmer air that favors rain, followed by a quick drop in temperatures that could lead to snow and icy travel behind the storm.

Temperatures ahead of the storm will reach their highest levels in weeks in much of the Ohio Valley and Northeast. This alone will cause some or all of the snow cover to melt.”

For Greater New Haven the weather services notes, rain and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 4 p.m. Friday. Temperature expected to rise to near 55 by 9 a.m., then fall to around 45 during the remainder of the day. “Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.”
