A bomb threat believed to have targeted a number of synagogues in the region was received by a synagogue in West Hartford.

The “non-specific bomb threat” was received in an email that is believed to have gone to a number of synagogues throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island and Vermont, according to Congregation Beth Israel on Farmington Avenue.

Congregation Beth Israel officials said in a statement issued Thursday that the building was searched by staff members and officers with the West Hartford Police Department. Nothing suspicious was found.

According to Congregation Beth Israel, officials found that “there is no credible threat to our building or community at this time.”

The synagogue has two security guards on the premises on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during services. According to the CBI, police are planning “extra drive-bys.”

“We ask that you use your FOB for entry into the building, or be prepared to identify yourself by name and what program you are attending upon arrival as we monitor access by camera,” Congregation Beth Israel officials wrote in a statement.

“Unless there is a specific and credible threat identified, we will carry on with our normal services and activities while sweeps by the authorities of the building take place.

“We ask that you stay alert and if you see something that does not seem right, please notify one of the security guards or the staff in the office, so it can be addressed,” Congregation Beth Israel officials wrote.

“Swatting or hoax bomb threats to synagogues and Jewish institutions is a national trend at this time and we will continue to report and assess each incident to ensure the safety of our congregants, staff, clergy and visitors.”
