My beloved mother Shelby McFalls peacefully passed away at her home in Gallatin, Tennessee, on March 20, 2024, causing a tremendous loss for our family. The long and arduous fight with cancer, which she had fought with such courage and determination, came to an end with her departure. In spite of the insurmountable odds she faced, Shelby’s determination and courage never faltered, and she was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Conquering cancer was no easy feat for Shelby. There were a lot of doctor’s appointments, lots of treatment sessions, and a lot of waiting around. Regardless, she maintained a positive outlook on life and refused to let her sickness define her. She taught us the importance of perseverance by showing us that no matter how bad things go, we can always pull ourselves together. Despite her condition, Shelby’s cheerfulness came through and lifted the spirits of everyone around her. Her unfaltering optimism boosted the spirits of everyone she met. People were lifted up and reminded that joy could be found in the midst of hardships by her infectious laughter and generous smile.
Shelby’s resilience appeared to get stronger as her health deteriorated. Instead of letting herself be consumed by pessimism, she bravely confronted each challenge head-on. Instead, she made an effort to treasure her family and friends and create lasting memories that would comfort us in her absence. In her final days, Shelby was cherished by her family, who were there to offer her unwavering support and affection. As we shared laughs, tears, and thoughts, we cherished the time we had left together. In those invaluable times, we drew strength from the bonds that united us and sought refuge in one another’s company.
