Robert Cornish Obituary – Robert James Cornish, who is now 93 years old and was born on December 4, 1930 in the vicinity of Bayard, Iowa, is the son of Zeb and Lottie (Lookingbill) Cornish. On Sunday, March 24, 2024, he passed away at The Lakeside Village, which is located in Panora, Iowa. Prior to enrolling in Bayard primary school, Bob got his education at a country school. He relocated to Yale with his parents while he was a junior in high school and attended Yale.
He was a member of the Yale class of 1948 and graduated with them. Before beginning his career at the Farmers State Bank in Yale, he received his education at A.I.B. in Des Moines. In 1950, he tied the knot with Jean Dubes, the girl he had a crush on in high school. In January of 1952, he was drafted into the United States Army, and they continued to reside on the farm until that time.
He was a member of the 43rd Infantry Division and received his basic training at Camp Roberts in California. It was because of the passing of his mother that he was called back to his native country of Augsburg, Germany, where he had been stationed previously. A discharge with honor was granted to him in January of 1954.
It was in 1984 when Bob and Jean made the move from Yale to Lake Panorama, and they remained there for the subsequent 35 years.
They traveled and cruised with their friends from Winterset Park, Florida, and spent the winters in Arizona and Florida. They also enjoyed traveling abroad. They relocated to The Lakeside Village in Panora in 2019 since Bob’s health was deteriorating. Bob served on the boards of the Yale United Methodist Church, the Hope Parish Council, and the YJB School Board during his time in the community. Following the closure of the Yale United Methodist Church, he moved his membership to the Panora United Methodist Church of the same denomination.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for fifty years, during which time he had held the position of master. In addition, he was a member of the O.E.S. for fifty years, during which time he held the position of worthy patron, among other offices. He had a taste for hunting. During each season, he and Jean enjoyed taking long drives into the countryside to take in the sights of the fields and the harvests. Together with Jean, he enjoyed playing card games and square dancing.
In addition to his wife, Jean Cornish, who resides in Panora, Bob is survived by his daughters, LuAnn (Bruce) Tamisiea of Okoboji and Lori (Tim) Raup of Panora; five grandsons, C.J. Cave, Kelsey (David) Parker, Tyler (Michaela) Tamisiea, Reid (Sara) Tamisiea, and Brooke (Chad) Tredway; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Barbara Cornish, his nephew Mark Cornish, and his sister-in-law Vernona Dubes all passed away previous to his passing.
The Panora United Methodist Church will be the location of the memorial services that will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:00P.M. At the church, visitation will begin one hour before the services are scheduled to begin. Following the conclusion of the service, his urn will be returned to the Brethren Cemetery in Panora for interment. Memorial contributions can be made to Caring Initiatives Hospice, Panora Emergency Medical Services, or The Yale Saddle Club. The family would want to express their gratitude to The Lakeside Village and Hospice for providing Bob with such kind care.
