A man faces kidnapping, threatening and other charges for allegedly assaulting a woman during a domestic incident in Norwich on Tuesday and forcing her to leave the area in a vehicle.

Officers began investigating after responding to Cumberland Farms at 412 Laurel Hill Ave. around 5:45 p.m. on the report of an active domestic disturbance, according to Lt. Kyle Besse of the Norwich Police Department.

Responding officers learned that a man, identified as Ricardo Charles, had allegedly assaulted a woman before forcing her into a vehicle and leaving the area, Besse said. The vehicle he was in was found nearby and pulled over, according to Besse.

Besse said the woman was not in the vehicle and was found at a different location. He did not disclose where. The woman was treated for injuries she suffered during the alleged assault.

Charles was arrested on charges of first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, second-degree assault, first-degree threatening, second-degree breach of peace and disobeying the signal of an officer by attempting to elude.

He was held on a $150,000 bond and was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday in Norwich Superior Court.
