Carolyn Ann Sullivan Obituary, Death – Carolyn Ann Sullivan, who resided in Salem and was 89 years old at the time of her passing, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her family. Having been born on January 11, 1935, in Salem, Indiana, she was the daughter of Alvin Robert Maudlin, who had also passed away, and Mary Gayle (Walton) Maudlin, who had also passed away.
Her children, Johnny (Lea Ann) Sullivan, Philip Sullivan, Carol Sue Sullivan, and Sherri (Greg) Purkhiser, as well as her grandchildren, Ashley Tarr, Jared Sullivan, Olivia Harlamert, Nyle Sullivan, Dusty Sullivan, Megan Sullivan, Dylan Sullivan, and Paige Bavaro, as well as her twelve great-grandchildren and one more on the way, were the most cherished members of her family. She also had a great-grandchild on the way, and she was expecting her thirteenth great-grandchild.
Among those who are not affected by her demise are also two of her brothers, Robert LaRue Maudlin of Orleans and Gary Maudlin of Salem. Both of these brothers are from Salem. Carolyn had lived her entire life in Washington County, where she had completed her education at Spencerian College in Louisville and graduated from Salem High School in 1953. She had also spent her entire life in Washington County.
She was the entrepreneur and operator of Sullivan’s Community Grocery in addition to working at the former Bata Shoe Factory and providing private home care for a substantial length of time. She operated the business for a considerable amount of time.
Her children and grandkids were the primary individuals whom she held in the highest regard. Her most cherished activities included attending each and every one of the holiday get-togethers and birthday parties. Branson, Missouri, the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman, Loretta Lynn Ranch, Butcher Holler, and any other place where she could listen to old-time country music were among the places that she made it a point to visit when she was travelling.
In addition to that, she made it a point to cross-stitch a quilt, especially for each of her children and grandchildren. “Gone to Bingo” was written on a plaque that was displayed on her carport, and she routinely kept a Circle the Word Search paper next to her chair. Both of these items were constantly there. Over the course of the past five years, Carolyn has expressed her appreciation to those individuals who have given her transportation to and from church as well as those who have served as her caregivers. Our sincere gratitude goes out to Care First Home Health for providing her with medical attention in the days leading up to her passing. Her two sons, Johnny and Philip Sullivan, as well as her brother, Miles Maudlin, all passed away before her own passing.
