CONOVER, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Heavy smoke was reported off Herman Sipe Road Friday afternoon, and the fire is now 75 percent contained as of 8:35 p.m.
Evacuation orders are not currently in effect. However, heavy smoke is anticipated to cause delays in the area and on Interstate 40.
Multiple agencies are responding including: Conover Fire, Hickory Fire, Newton Fire, Long View Fire, Saint Stephens Fire, Mountain View Fire, Oxford Fire, Maiden Pire, Bethlehem Fire, Icard Fire, Union Fire, Bandys Fire, along with Catawba County EMS, Catawba County Emergency Management, and Catawba County Fire Marshal.
