UConn advances to Hockey East women’s championship with 6-1 win over Holy Cross

STORRS — For the second straight game six different UConn players scored as the Huskies overwhelmed Holy Cross 6-1 on Tuesday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum to advance to the Hockey East women’s championship game.

The Huskies’ semifinal win was an offensive repeat of a 6-1 quarterfinal win over Maine in which six players scored goals.

UConn (26-8-2) advances to play at top-seeded Northeastern on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. for the conference championship. Northeastern advanced with a 3-1 win over Vermont.

Kyla Josifovic opened the scoring for UConn with a power-play goal at 11:15 of the first period. Violet Carroll tied the score for the Crusaders at 18:21 and the opening period ended in a 1-1 tie.

Julia Pellerin scored what turned out to be the winning goal at 3:49 of the second. The Huskies put the game away in the last two minutes of the period as Megan Woodward (18:11) and Ashley Allard (19:29) increased the lead to 4-1 with a period to play.

Maya Serdachny and Christina Walker scored the final two goals for UConn, while Tia Chan made 27 saves, including 13 in the final period.

UConn has had its hands full with Northeastern this season, losing the three regular-season games.
