A Groton man is facing charges for allegedly transferring explicit material involving children over the internet.
On Friday, the City of Groton Police Department said it concluded its ongoing investigation. During the course of the investigation, police said 31-year-old Joshua R. Vargas was identified as the suspect.
Investigators executed a search-and-seizure warrant at Vargas’ residence and seized several items that allegedly linked Vargas to the child sexual abuse material, according to police.
An arrest warrant for Vargas was requested and granted by the New London Superior Court, police said.
Vargas was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of child sexual abuse material. He was held on a court-set $100,000 cash/surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court in New London on March 2.
Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact the City of Groton Police Department’s Detective Division at 860-446-4186.
