The cutthroat Scotland-based TV reality competition “The Traitors” is preparing a non-celebrity edition of the popular series, and Mohegan Sun in Uncasville is hosting one of the open casting calls.
Billed as a “special casting call” for the upcoming civilian version of the series, which until now has used reality stars, comedians and athletes as contestants, the Mohegan Sun auditions will be held on March 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. at The Shops concourse.
“The Traitors” series finds a castle full of contestants working both with and against each other to root out the “Traitors” among the “Faithful.” The show takes place at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands. The fourth season wraps up this week with the winner earning $250,000.
The U.S. version of “The Traitors,” as well the UK, Australian and New Zealand editions of the show, air on NBC’s streaming site Peacock, but the new civilian series will air on the NBC network.
“The Traitors” host Alan Cumming has been a Broadway star since starring in a landmark revival of “Cabaret” in the late 1990s. He has made many visits to Connecticut with his concert acts, including the “Och and Oy!” shows he does with NPR’s Ari Shapiro. One notable Cumming appearance was in 2012, when Kristen Chenoweth was injured and unable to accept an award from Goodspeed Musicals at the theater’s annual gala. Cumming, a good friend of Chenoweth’s, came and entertained the crowd in her place. Cumming’s film and TV appearances include “The Good Wife,” “Schmigadoon,” the cult movie “Josie & the Pussycats” and the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday.” Cumming will not be at the Mohegan Sun casting call event.
Those interested in being on the show can apply in person and also pre-register at thetraitorscastingcall.com. Casting producers from the program will be at the Mohegan Sun event. According to the announcement, the producers are seeking “standout personalities, quick thinkers, clever strategists, captivating storytellers, master manipulators, and steadfast Faithful ready to trust their gut under pressure.”
Applicants must be over 21 years old and meet other eligibility requirements such as U.S. citizenship or valid immigration status so as to be able to travel to the UK. A full list of requirements is listed with the online application form at us.castitreach.com.
