The son of a retired deputy fire chief in West Hartford was killed during the blizzard on Monday when a ratchet strap snapped and struck him in the head in Hebron.

State troopers responded to a call seeking medical assistance on Burnt Hill Road where 25-year-old Shane Albert was suffering from injuries, according to Connecticut State Police.

He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, state police said.

The victim was identified as Albert by the West Hartford Fire Fighters Association Local 1241. He was the son of Keith Albert, former deputy chief of the West Hartford Fire Department.

“Shane grew up around the firehouse, and his kindness, warmth, and passion touched many lives both inside and outside our walls,” the union wrote in a Facebook post.

“We ask our community to keep Chief Albert and his family in their thoughts as they navigate this profound loss,” the post said.
