The Jameson Pub, a popular Irish bar with live music located in Watertown, has shut its doors for good this weekend.
Owner Robert Perri announced the closing on Monday on social media, citing expenses as an ongoing problem.
“I guess I’ll address the elephant in the room. We closed The Jameson Pub Saturday night. For the last four years we’ve struggled to keep the place open. Nothing is cheap and live music is expensive af (sic).”
“I’m not sure what we are going to be doing with the bar. I’m considering my options. Thanks to all the bands that became friends and family. To our staff thank you for your dedication. This isn’t a pity party this is a business decision.”
The Jameson Pub was located at 675 Main St. The space was previously the Red Door and Ouzo Blues.
There was an outpouring of support from the pub’s patrons and musicians attached to the post.
“Best of luck brotha with whatever decisions you make! Lots of good memories playing music there for you. Thank you for the opportunities. Myself and the band always had a blast playing there. Much love and respect brotha!” one musician wrote on Perri’s post.
“Had so many fun times and saw so many great bands and made many friends there. Thank you for all of that Robert,” one patron posted.
“Very sad news, this was one of the best places to see live music in the area,” another patron posted.
“Robert Perri you are the best!! You created some amazing experiences at The Jameson Pub. I can’t wait to see your next move, always a class act!” another posted.
“When something like this happens it’s never a good thing. This venue welcomed all sorts of entertainment,” another customer said.
In 2023, a sci-fi military thriller, “Article 92,” filmed a scene in the pub.
Perri also owns Grand Street Tavern at 142 Grand St. in Waterbury. That business remains open.
