Police are investigating the death of a man who authorities believe was injured in a hit-and-run in New Haven before boarding a bus to a neighboring town.

East Haven police began investigating on Feb. 13 after a suspicious death was reported to them by staff at Yale New Haven Hospital, according to the New Haven Police Department.

Authorities investigated and discovered that the victim, Dominic Landolfi of New Haven, had taken a CTtransit bus to East Haven on Feb. 11, police said. He needed medical attention when he arrived and was taken in an ambulance to Yale New Haven, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to police.

Police said their initial investigation found that Landolfi had been struck by a vehicle on Forbes Avenue in New Haven before boarding the bus. The driver involved in the crash left the scene and had not been found as of Monday, New Haven police said.

Police said they did not receive any reports about the crash when it occurred.

The New Haven Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team was assigned the case last week, police said. The investigation remains ongoing.

Any witnesses or individuals with information have been asked to contact New Haven detectives at 203-946-6304 or the department’s anonymous tip-line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
