Gina Lacey readily proclaims that her carefully curated, vibrant boutique is “not your grandma’s antique shop.”
“Our tagline speaks to our modern approach to vintage finds. We aim to create a welcoming and accessible shopping experience, offering items that fit into everyday life, rather than just ‘old-fashioned’ antiques,’” said Lacey, owner of The Hunt, located at 20 Bank St. in the heart of downtown New Milford.
Opened in 2020, the two-story, 5,000-square-foot shop is filled from top-to-bottom with an eclectic and vast selection of unique items that are sourced from around the globe, ranging from vintage and antique to boho and farmhouse.

There is home decor and housewares such as colorful bottles, milk glass, old wooden crates, ironstone pitchers, crocks and jugs, and more; art; smaller size furniture items; puzzles and games; vintage reproductions; and timeworn furnishings.
The lower level is filled with clothing, shoes, and accessories such as sunglasses, purses, belts, and jewelry for men, women and children in both vintage and contemporary styles; toys and books, movies; and vinyl records.
“We aim to provide items that are suitable for everyday use, distinguishing ourselves from traditional antique shops that may feel overly formal,” said Lacey, noting her most popular items tend to be unique housewares and clothing.
She is constantly updating her supply and stocks seasonal items all year round.
“We source our inventory from estate sales, auctions, private collectors, tag sales, and by helping people clean out their homes or the homes of their loved ones. While we do not accept consignment, we always welcome donations,” said Lacey who carefully researches the market and remains aware of her clients’ needs regarding style, price, and current trends.
She prices her items from 30% to 90% off the original price. “I strive to provide a range of affordable options so that everyone can find something special without breaking the bank.”
The store’s name is emblematic.
“It reflects the excitement of discovering unique treasures and vintage items, capturing the thrill of searching for the perfect piece. I appreciate people being able to create their own individual style when choosing second hand, rather than following trends and looking like everyone else,” said Lacey who takes pride in managing and curating every aspect of the store. “I look for pieces that tell a story, have character, and fit our shop’s aesthetic. I focus on quality and versatility, ensuring that the items can be enjoyed in everyday life.”

The store’s offerings change often as Lacey receives items daily.
Rachel, a customer from Washington, Connecticut, said she shops at The Hunt a few times per month.
“The quality of items, Gina’s careful curation, and the sweet staff make it a fun spot to visit. It’s like a treasure hunt that you can always enjoy as you find something new every time,” she said.
The Hunt’s cool retro feel initially piqued her interest.
“I was curious about the shop because of its name and the beautiful front window display. Every time I walk into The Hunt, I am greeted by a warm and inviting vibe,” she said. “It feels less like a store and more like stepping into a cozy home filled with treasures waiting to be discovered.”
Rachel said she gets excited finding special pieces.
“I scored a beautiful heavy wood framed mirror that instantly became the centerpiece of my living room. I’ve received so many compliments and it reflects my style and adds personality to my space,” she said, noting she also finds vintage housewares and retro and modern clothes for her kids, the perfect dress for herself, and “vintage boots for her husband.”
A main focus of the shop is sustainability and recycling items.
“Sustainability is important to me because it minimizes waste and promotes responsible consumption. By recycling and offering vintage items, we contribute to a more sustainable future while giving new life to unique treasures,” Lacey said.
“My business philosophy is to create a welcoming space where everyone can explore and discover unique, sustainable finds that enhance their homes and lives. I believe in promoting a greener lifestyle through vintage shopping while making it fun and accessible for all.”
Lacey appreciates owning the special antique shop. “Being a business owner is incredibly rewarding. I love interacting with customers and helping them find unique pieces that resonate with them. The joy of seeing someone connect with an item is what makes it all worthwhile,” said Lacey, adding, “One of the reasons I opened The Hunt was to share a love of all things beautiful, with a vintage touch. And remember – old is the new cool.’
