A Connecticut man is facing DUI, weapons charges after he was allegedly found with a handgun after he attempted to flee from a crash involving a stopped police cruiser in Ansonia.
Officers were investigating a single-car crash on Elm Street just before 10 p.m. on Feb. 14 when another vehicle reportedly struck a stopped police cruiser with its emergency lights activated and fled the scene, according to the Ansonia Police Department.
Officers located the vehicle on East Main Street and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 44-year-old Angel Sosa of Ansonia, was taken into custody. During a search, officers allegedly located two loaded handgun magazines on Sosa and a loaded 9mm Sig Sauer handgun in the back seat of the vehicle, police said.
According to police, Sosa refused to submit to standardized field sobriety tests. He was arrested on charges of DUI, evading responsibility, carrying a firearm under the influence and failing to move over when approaching a stopped emergency vehicle. He was released on a $7,500 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 27 at Derby Superior Court.
