A restaurant that prided itself on providing fresh, farm-to-table food has made what its operators say is the “incredibly hard” decision to close.

New Haven’s Bnatural Kitchen closed after 22 years of serving the Elm City and Yale University, according to operators Nebyat and Gabi.

The two said in a letter to customers that, “after more than two decades of serving the heart of downtown, we are officially saying goodbye.

“Bnatural—a spot many of you have called home for healthy, clean food—closed its doors last week,” they said.

The was on Chapel Street in New Haven, in the heart of Yale territory and a popular shopping district. They promoted their business as “from everyday meals to large events,” and noted “our food is crafted fresh, balanced, and designed to bring people together.”

“Our story started 22 years ago as Woodland Coffee and Tea in the Ninth Square,” the owners said in their letter. “We began with nothing more than a simple dream and a lot of heart.

“Looking back, we are so proud that we stayed true to what mattered most: making fresh, farm-to-table food accessible to our community,” they said.

They also noted that, “Deciding to close was incredibly hard, but we’re leaving with hearts full of love. We didn’t just serve coffee and bowls; we built a life here.”

“To our regulars: you became our lifelong friends. We truly want to thank the City of New Haven and Yale Properties for giving us the chance to grow here since the very beginning,” they wrote.

Further, they said, “while our doors are now closed, the memories of your laughter, your stories, and your loyalty will stay with us forever. Thank you, New Haven, for being our family for 22 wonderful years.”

New Haven was originally laid out in a nine-square grid, which is why a section of the city is called the Ninth Square.

Yale University Properties manages Yale University’s commercial properties, which includes retail stores, restaurants, office spaces and homes in New Haven, according to Yale.
