A Wallingford man has been arrested after police say he stole nearly $3,000 in parts from heavy machinery, police said.

Nicholas Sabo, 33, has been arrested and charged with third-degree larceny and criminal attempt at third-degree larceny, according to the Wallingford Police Department. The arrest comes after police say they conducted an extensive investigation into a series of thefts targeting heavy machinery that was stored at 970 North Colony Road.

The investigation began on Dec. 22, 2025, when Wallingford police were assigned to investigate the theft of a door from a Bobcat S 650 skid steer loader. Police said it was reported that the incident followed a previous attempted theft of the same door just weeks earlier. The approximate value of the stolen equipment is $2,800.

Police said Sabo’s arrest comes amid a rising trend of targeted, high-value theft involving Bobcat equipment across Connecticut and surrounding regions. Criminals are increasingly targeting construction sites, often during overnight hours, to disassemble and steal removable components such as glass door assemblies.

To mitigate the risk of equipment tampering and theft, the Wallingford Police Department recommends:

  • Install Surveillance Systems: High- definition cameras should be positioned to monitor equipment directly.
  • Utilize Tracking Devices: Equipping machinery with GPS tracking can assist law enforcement in recovery efforts.
  • Secure Storage: Whenever possible, store high-value machinery in well-lit, fenced- in, or locked areas to prevent unauthorized access to components.

Sabo is currently being held at the Wallingford Police Department on a $15,000 bond and is due in court on Feb. 27, 2026, in Meriden.
