Speed skater Kristen Santos-Griswold, a two-time Olympian who grew up in Fairfield, hasn’t had much luck so far in the Winter Olympics so far.

In the short track 500 meters, Santos-Griswold made it to the semifinal, only to hit an inside block with her skate and become unbalanced and fall behind. She failed to place among the leaders to advance to the medal final. In the B final, Santos-Griswold got caught in a crash and finished second to last.

But she still has more chances to medal. Saturday in Milan, she finished second in her heat of the 1,000 meters in 1:28.564 behind Italy’s Elisa Confortola (1:28.300) to qualify for the quarterfinals, which take place Monday, along with the semifinals and finals.

She will also compete in the short track 1,500 meters on Friday.

In the 2022 Olympics, Santos-Griswold was in contention for a medal in the final of the 1,000 meters when she was hit by another competitor and fell and finished out of medal contention.

U.S. men’s hockey team wins: The U.S. men’s hockey team defeated Denmark, 6-3, Saturday in the Group C preliminary round and will face Germany next on Sunday. UConn’s Tage Thompson played nine minutes in Saturday’s game and did not score.
