Two charged with operating drug factory after search warrant leads to guns, narcotics in Willimantic

A search warrant allegedly led to the seizure of firearms and narcotics and two arrests in Willimantic last week, police said.

On Feb. 4, the Willimantic Police Department executed a narcotics-related search and seizure warrant at a residence on Philip Lauter Avenue, according to police.

During the execution of the warrant, police said K-9 Drogo alerted to the presence of narcotics in multiple areas of the residence. According to police, officers allegedly located and seized fentanyl and crack cocaine, narcotics manufacturing and packaging materials, U.S. currency, a 9mm Glock 43 firearm, a large-capacity magazine and multiple rounds of ammunition of varying calibers.

As a result of the investigation, 41-year-old Jerome Hunter and 55-year-old Brenda Ortiz of Willimantic were arrested, police said.

Hunter was charged with criminal possession of a pistol, criminal possession of a firearm/ammunition by a convicted felon, illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, sale of a narcotic substance, operation of a drug factory and possession with intent to sell narcotics and held on a $250,000 cash/surety bond.

Ortiz charged with illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, sale of a narcotic substance, operation of a drug factory, possession with intent to sell narcotics and was held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond.

“The Willimantic Police Department remains committed to proactively combating narcotics trafficking and illegal firearm possession within the city of Willimantic,” police said. “All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
