A Salvadoran national has been sentenced to federal prison for reentering the country and allegedly engaging police in pursuit in South Windsor in 2025, which followed his deportation after a firearm-related conviction years earlier.

Freddy Alexander Morales Tejada, 25, who last resided in Vernon, appeared Wednesday in federal court in New Haven where he was sentenced to nearly four months in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut. Officials said the sentence equated to time served.

According to federal authorities, Morales Tejada in October 2023 was convicted in Superior Court in Connecticut on charges of carrying a pistol without a permit and first-degree failure to appear. He was deported to El Salvador in February 2024.

Officials said Morales Tejada unlawfully reentered the country and was found in South Windsor on May 19, 2025, when he was arrested on charges of engaging in a police pursuit, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle without license and illegal operation of motor vehicle under suspension.

He was charged by a federal criminal complaint in October. The following month, Morales Tejada pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the U.S.

According to court records, the charges stemming from the South Windsor arrest remain pending in Manchester Superior Court.

Morales Tejada remains detained pending deportation to El Salvador, officials said.
