A man was arrested on a DUI charge after police said he struck a school bus in Southbury on Wednesday, leading to two students being ejected and injuring several others.

The crash occurred as a Region 14 school bus was traveling on Southford Road near Jeremy Swamp Road where it was struck by a vehicle being driven by 65-year-old Richard Estey of Southbury just before 2:40 p.m., according to the Southbury Police Department.

The impact forced the bus into a third vehicle that was heading north on Southford Road, police said.

Two students were ejected from the bus during the collision and several others were injured, according to police. Police said each victim was taken to an area hospital and was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Estey was taken into custody at the scene and charged with driving under the influence and failure to obey a traffic control signal, police said. He is free on a $25,000 bond.

The crash remains under investigation.
