Police have charged three people in a shooting on New Year’s Eve in New Haven.

The shooting was reported in the area of Chapel Street and Kensington Street shortly before 8 p.m. when officers responded to the area and found that a 35-year-old New Haven woman had suffered a nonfatal gunshot wound, according to the New Haven Police Department.

Det. David DeRubeis of the Major Crimes Unit and Sgt. Brendan Canning investigated the shooting and found that there was an exchange of gunfire between the occupants of a vehicle on Chapel Street and a man who was standing on the sidewalk, police said. The man was later identified as 53-year-old Heshimu Barker of West Haven.

Barker was charged on Jan. 27 after police obtained a warrant for his arrest. He faces charges of attempted first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Barker is being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on March 5.

Detectives then made two more arrests after identifying additional suspects as 20-year-old Jatwan Robinson and 27-year-old Tyreek London both of New Haven, according to police.

Police arrested Robinson on Jan. 29 and charged him with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, according to court records. He is free on a $50,000 bond and was scheduled to face a judge on Wednesday.

London was arrested on Feb. 2 and charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit, court records show. He is being held on a $300,000 bond and is set to appear in court next Tuesday.
