Olivia Giaccio, a two-time Olympic moguls skier who grew up in Redding, just missed qualifying for the medal final Wednesday morning at the Olympics, finishing ninth in the first finals run of the moguls competition at Livigno Snow Park in Italy.

Her two American teammates, Liz Lemley and Jaelin Kauf, won the gold and silver medals.

Giaccio, who finished sixth at the Olympics in 2022, was third after the first two rounds heading into the finals but a mistake in her third run dropped her to seventh place with a score of 75.81 with two competitors – Kauf and 2022 gold medalist Jakara Anthony of Australia left to ski. The top eight skiers advanced to the medal final and both Kauf and Anthony got higher scores, bumping Giaccio, 25, out of contention into ninth place.

Up next: Austin Florian of Southington will compete in the first two heats of skeleton racing and Kristen Santos-Griswold, who grew up in Fairfield, will attempt to win her first Olympic medal in the 500-meter short track speed skating. Men’s hockey will also get underway, with UConn’s Tage Thompson playing with his U.S. team against Latvia.
