A Hamden man will spend five years behind bars for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.

Corey Baker, 48, was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison, suspended after five years served, followed by 15 years of sexual offender probation, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice. Baker must also register as a sex offender for a 10-year period after his release from prison.

The sentencing comes after a jury in New Haven found Baker guilty of one count of fourth-degree sexual assault and one count of risk of injury to a minor on Dec. 5, the DCJ said.

Evidence presented at trial showed that Baker engaged in inappropriate physical contact with the girl over an extended period, beginning when she was 6 years old and continuing until she was 14, according to court records.
