A man has been charged in connection with a stabbing incident in Willimantic in November 2025.

Edgardo Machavelo Santos, 59, was arrested Thursday on an active arrest warrant charging him with first-degree assault while appearing at Danielson Superior Court on an unrelated matter, according to the Willimantic Police Department.

On Nov. 16, 2025, officers responded to a reported stabbing on Pleasant Street around 7 p.m. Police allege that Santos became involved in an argument with another man and stabbed him with a knife multiple times during the altercation.

The man sustained significant internal injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment, according to police.

“The responding officer’s immediate medical intervention at the scene was critical in saving the victim’s life,” police said.

The Detective Division conducted an investigation that led to the identification of Santos, according to police.

After his arrest on Thursday, Santos was held on a $500,000 cash/surety bond.
