A 16-year-old Manchester High School student was arrested Thursday after a gun, marijuana and marijuana vape products were allegedly found in his backpack, police said.

According to the Manchester Police Department, a student allegedly heard another student talking about a “clip” in the bathroom and immediately reported it to a school administrator.

School resource officers and administrators immediately located the student in question, police said. The school resource officers searched the student’s backpack and allegedly found a loaded .380 caliber Smith & Wesson M&P handgun, marijuana and marijuana vape products, according to police.

The student was taken into custody and charged with carrying a firearm without a permit, weapon on school grounds, carrying a dangerous weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, possession of marijuana by a minor, illegal manufacture, distribution, sale, prescription or dispensing and second-degree breach of peace.

Due to the student’s age, no further information was release by police.

“The Manchester Police Department commends the student who reported the information and the swift actions of school resource officers, which helped ensure the safety of students and staff,” police said.
