A Waterbury police sergeant who is facing criminal charges was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

On Thursday, the Waterbury Police Department was notified by the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crimes Division that an arrest warrant was issued for Sgt. Donald Robinson, according to Sgt. Joseph Morais of Waterbury Police Department.

The warrant was served by the Connecticut State Police during the morning hours on Thursday, Morais said. Robinson was processed on charges of interfering with an investigation and fifth-degree computer crimes and released on a promise to appear.

According to Morais, the Waterbury Police Department has initiated an Internal Affairs investigation into the matter and is working in cooperation with Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crimes Division.

Robinson has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. “As this is an active investigation, no further details are available at this time,” Morais said.
