Police in West Hartford conducted an operation on Wednesday that yielded a number of arrests and led to authorities recovering a stolen vehicle.

The enforcement operation was carried out by the West Hartford Police Department’s Community Support Unit and the Detective Division, according to Capt. Aaron Vafiades.

Vafiades said the effort targeted “street-level offenses” and warrant services.

During the operation, police made four felony arrests and three misdemeanor arrests, Vafiades said. Investigators also arrested two men who were remanded into custody by the Department of Correction Parole Fugitive Unit.

Authorities also served a warrant on an individual wanted for failure to appear in court and an unspecified warrant that was held by another agency, Vafiades said. Two people were also arrested for allegedly engaging police in pursuit and a man who was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

Police also recovered a stolen vehicle after the driver allegedly fled, Vafiades said. The occupants were apprehended following a foot chase.

According to Vafiades, the vehicle had been stolen in New Britain.

The driver was identified as 21-year-old Javeon Zymell Stevens Christopher of Waterbury, according to Vafiades. He was found to be on the Deadly Weapons Offender Registry and on parole, Vafiades said.

Christopher also had a warrant out for his arrest held by Connecticut State Police charging him with first-degree escape and a warrant charging him with second-degree failure to appear, Vafiades said. He was remanded into custody before the Parole Fugitive Unit took custody of him.

A passenger in the vehicle, 21-year-old Raymond Perez of New Britain, was also found to be on the Deadly Weapons Offender Registry and on parole, according to Vafiades. Perez allegedly had 57.5 grams of marijuana on him, Vafiades said.

Perez was remanded into custody by the Parole Fugitive Unit.

Christopher and Perez were charged in connection with the stolen vehicle and with interfering with police, according to Vafiades.
