Man arrested on assault, firearm charges in connection with double shooting outside CT bar

A Connecticut man is facing assault and firearm charges in connection with a shooting at a bar in Norwich in September 2025.

On Tuesday, the Norwich Police Department’s Detective Division arrested 37-year-old Jerrod Steele on an active arrest warrant stemming from a shooting on Sept. 20, 2025, at Pistol Pete’s Bar and Grill, located at 29 Stonington Road, according to Sgt. Ken Wright of the Norwich Police Department.

According to investigators, Steele allegedly discharged a firearm in the parking lot of the bar, striking two innocent bystanders, Wright said. Both victims were transported to William W. Backus Hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Steele is facing charges of first-degree assault, criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, second-degree breach of peace and first-degree reckless endangerment, according to Wright.

At the time of his arrest, Steele was in federal custody in connection with an unrelated investigation, Wright said. He was arraigned at the New London Superior Court and returned to federal custody.
