A Rhode Island man has been arrested in connection with a 2025 liquor store burglary in Ledyard.

Troy Stone, 40, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, is facing charges of third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny, according to the Ledyard Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to Ledyard Town Spirits located at 749 Colonel Ledyard Highway around 3:43 a.m. on Jan. 27, 2025, after the owner of the store called to report suspicious activity on the CCTV cameras, police said.

As arriving officers were checking the business for signs of entry, they noticed that one of the front doors had the glass removed, according to police. Police said the glass has been placed to the side of the building and left fully intact.

As officers entered the building, they reportedly discovered a cash register on the ground and papers scattered around the store.

“The business owner arrived a short time later and confirmed that the alarm within the business was never triggered,” police said.

During the investigation, officers learned that a similar incident occurred in Stonington a short time earlier, according to police. They also learned that similar burglaries had occurred throughout Rhode Island, mainly in Cumberland, police said.

A suspect was identified as 40-year-old Troy Stone of Cumberland, Rhode Island, following a joint investigation and examination of evidence, according to police.

A warrant for Stone’s arrest was served on Jan. 29 at New London Superior Court and he was held on a $40,000 surety bond.
