Readers speak: Connecticut deserves better from our elected representatives

U. S. Senator Chris Murphy, looking to get in on the politicians versus ICE action out of Minneapolis, recently flew to Texas to demand entrance to an ICE detention facility. Evidently he was unable to find any newsworthy ICE activity here in Connecticut.

The senator can now add his name to the growing roster of liberal Democrats who use violation of the rules, regulation, and the law to advance their political agenda. What’s the message that people like Murphy are sending to the rest of us? Is the law to be followed until it becomes inconvenient?

Murphy’s gambit with Texas ICE authorities was clearly designed to get attention. Imagine flying 1,500 plus miles just to challenge an ICE facility with a day and a half notice after he was told they required seven days. If he was really interested in touring the facility he would have simply waited the five extra days.

Violating the rules have become stables of Democrat politics. The epicenter of that behavior is currently Minneapolis. It is unfortunate that Senator Murphy finds it necessary to join in the nonsense. Connecticut deserves better from our elected representatives.
