UConn men’s hockey defends CT Ice title with 4-2 win over Quinnipiac

NEW HAVEN — The UConn hockey team scored three goals in the third period and successfully defended its CT Ice title with a 4-2 win over No. 6 Quinnipiac in the championship game of the fourth-team state tournament on Saturday night at Ingalls Rink.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the final period, the 13th-ranked Huskies tied the game on a goal by Carlin Dezainde at 4:38. As the period continued and overtime was looking like a real possibility, the Huskies put the game away late with a pair goals within 41 seconds. Jake Percival scored first, beating Quinnipiac goalie Matej Marinov with what would be the winning score at 17:35. Teammate Joey Muldowney then added insurance at 18:16.

Tabor Heaslip scored the first goal for UConn (15-7-3), giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead at 16:24 of the first period. The Bobcats (19-5-2) answered with second-period goals by Markus Vidicek at 13:42 and Chris Pelosi at 14:39.

Tyler Muszelik had 28 saves for the Huskies, while Marinov had 25 for Quinnipiac.

Sacred Heart defeated Yale, 3-2, in the consolation game.
